Wazirpur Faces Alarmingly Poor Air Quality: What You Need to Know
The national capital, Delhi, is facing scrutiny amid allegations of manipulating air quality index (AQI) readings. On Tuesday, the city’s AQI reached a concerning level of 305 by 5:30 am, indicating ‘very poor’ air quality. The temperature at that hour was recorded at 20.4 degrees Celsius, according to the Early Warning System for Delhi.
Wazirpur and Siri Fort reported the highest pollution levels with an AQI of 349, followed closely by Ashok Vihar and Bawana, both registering an AQI of 340. The Congress party and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) have accused the Rekha Gupta government of attempting to “fudge” the AQI figures by deploying anti-smog guns solely around monitoring stations. A video showcasing water tankers repeatedly circling these locations has gone viral on social media, intensifying the controversy.
As the air quality deteriorates, concerns about public health and governance in Delhi remain pressing.
