“Safer Nagaland” App: Your Ultimate Lifeline for Real-Time Weather Alerts
Advisor of the Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) and New & Renewable Energy (NRE), Z. Nyusietho Nyuthe, officially launched the “Safer Nagaland” mobile application at the NSDMA Conference Hall in the Nagaland Civil Secretariat, Kohima. This innovative app aims to deliver real-time weather updates, early warning alerts, and safety information to enhance public preparedness and response to natural disasters and changing weather conditions across the state.
During the launch event, Nyuthe emphasized Nagaland’s commitment to utilizing digital tools for public safety, stating, “Timely information and public awareness remain the strongest tools in reducing disaster risks.” The application empowers communities by providing location-based forecasts and alerts that help safeguard lives, protect property, and bolster local preparedness.
Nyuthe further explained that the Safer Nagaland app is an extension of the existing NSDMA Weather Portal, creating a more integrated system for weather monitoring and public awareness. By making these services accessible via mobile devices, essential information can reach every corner of Nagaland, from urban centers to remote villages.
He also announced plans to enhance the network of automated weather stations, improve forecasting capabilities, and continue public awareness initiatives. Nyuthe stressed that the effectiveness of these digital tools hinges on responsible and proactive use of the information by citizens.
Dr. Johnny Ruangmei, Joint Chief Executive Officer, described the app as a comprehensive platform for disaster preparedness and early warnings. With increasing smartphone penetration in both rural and urban areas, he encouraged the public to download the app for timely weather updates and safety alerts. In the coming months, the app will also include features such as alerts for lightning, earthquakes, and other emergencies, aligning with systems in advanced countries.
The launch event included a brief video demonstration of the app, highlighting its functionality and user-friendliness. Nyuthe congratulated the NSDMA team on this achievement and expressed hope that the app would serve as a crucial tool in protecting lives and livelihoods across Nagaland.
