
Azad Basfore Inspires Arunachal Powerlifters to Historic World Cup Triumph!
Arunachal Pradesh has gained international recognition as powerlifter Azad Basfore secured both a gold and a bronze medal at the Powerlifting World Cup held in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, from October 17 to 19. Competing in the 82.5 kg Senior category under the World Powerlifting Congress (WPC) India, Basfore showcased an impressive display of strength and skill that stood out among competitors.
Basfore’s achievements were complemented by his teammates, Abhijit Rajkhowa, who participated in the 90 kg BW Master II category, and Deepok Nasi in the 67.5 kg BW Junior category, both of whom also won gold medals. This remarkable performance resulted in a total of three golds and one bronze for the Arunachal contingent, marking the first international powerlifting medals in the state’s history.
The championship brought together 439 athletes from more than eight countries, underscoring the significance of Arunachal’s accomplishments on the global platform. Experts believe this milestone could inspire a wave of new strength athletes in the region, highlighting the potential for growth in this sport.
