Cricketer Receives Extortion Emails from Man Linked to Zeeshan Siddique
Cricketer Rinku Singh was targeted earlier this year when he received an extortion email from Mohammad Dilshad Naved, who has since been arrested. Naved, originally from Bihar and working in the West Indies, allegedly demanded money from Singh, although the email intended for Singh’s promotional handler went unread until the Mumbai crime branch uncovered it while investigating a related case involving Zeeshan Siddique, the son of slain NCP leader Baba Siddique.
The investigation revealed that Naved had sent multiple emails to the account associated with Singh’s commercial activities. In his first email, he expressed admiration for the cricketer and claimed to be a fan, demanding Rs 5 crore “to help him out.” When Singh did not respond, Naved escalated his threats, asserting he was linked to the D Company, the crime syndicate associated with fugitive gangster Dawood Ibrahim, and demanded money at a time and place of his choosing.
After still receiving no response, Naved targeted Zeeshan Siddique in April, demanding Rs 10 crore and again claiming ties to the D Company. This time, Siddique noticed the email and filed a complaint with the Mumbai police. Following this, authorities issued a Look Out Circular for Naved, who was arrested upon arriving in India from Trinidad and Tobago in August. Officials clarified that Naved had no actual connections to any gang and was employed at his uncle’s grocery store in the West Indies.
