Assam CM’s Wife Challenges Akhil Gogoi with Defamation Lawsuit
Guwahati: Riniki Bhuyan Sharma, an entrepreneur and the wife of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, has filed a criminal defamation case against Sibsagar MLA Akhil Gogoi and others for allegedly making false and derogatory statements about her and her company, Golden Threads of Assam.
The complaint is centered around remarks made by Gogoi, who called for an investigation into the mysterious death of singer Zubeen Garg in Singapore. Gogoi has accused Sharma and her company of organizing an event at the North East Festival in Singapore, which Zubeen attended.
In addition to Gogoi, the defamation complaint also names Taufiquddin Ahmad, the Director of Pratibimba Live. Sharma has tasked her legal team with pursuing further legal action against AJP leader Lurin Jyoti Gogoi and others who she claims have spread misinformation on social media. The next hearing in this case is set for October.
In response to the situation, Sharma, through her organization PEEPL, offered to sponsor a trip for Akhil Gogoi to Singapore, aiming to gather evidence to support his claims regarding Zubeen’s death.
