Don’t Miss It: BTC Legislative Assembly Session in Kokrajhar on October 9
Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya has summoned the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) Legislative Assembly, headed by Chief Executive Member Hagrama Mohilary, to meet at 10 a.m. on Thursday, October 9, 2025. The session will be held at the Council Assembly House in Bodofa Nwgwr, Kokrajhar. This action comes in accordance with clause (1) of Article 174 of the Indian Constitution, which empowers the Governor to call for legislative sessions as needed.
The upcoming assembly session is anticipated to address important administrative, developmental, and policy issues related to the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR). Hagrama Mohilary, president of the Bodoland People’s Front (BPF), was sworn in as the Chief Executive Member of the BTC on October 5, following a decisive victory in the recent council elections. The BPF secured 28 out of 40 seats, reaffirming its authority over the autonomous body governing the BTR, which includes Kokrajhar, Chirang, Baksa, and Udalguri districts.
The swearing-in ceremony took place at the Bodoland Secretariat Field in Kokrajhar amid continuous rainfall, with former minister Rihon Daimary taking the oath as Deputy Chief Executive Member at the same event. The ceremony was witnessed by notable figures such as Governor Acharya, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, various cabinet ministers, and Pradyot Manikya Debbarma, chief of Tipra Motha from Tripura, marking a significant political milestone for the region.
