CID Expands Investigation into Zubeen Garg’s Death: New Summons Issued
The investigation into the death of music icon Zubeen Garg has escalated, with the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) summoning three additional individuals connected to the North-East Festival. Sources indicate that Nayan Jyoti Das, Dipjyoti Roy, and Raktim Roy have been called in for questioning. These individuals are reported to be close associates of festival organizer Shyamkanu Mahanta, who along with Siddhartha Sharma, is currently in custody. Raktim Roy is specifically believed to have had a close watch on Mahanta’s financial activities pertaining to the festival.
The Special Investigation Team (SIT) has confirmed that the probe is advancing on several fronts, focusing on financial discrepancies and interpersonal relationships among those involved. The case has been categorized as Case No. 18/2025, falling under various provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Intensive interrogations of both Mahanta and Sharma are underway.
Additionally, a separate case related to properties has been filed against Mahanta, recorded as Case No. 19/2025, under several sections of the BNSS. CID officials have directed other individuals of interest to appear for questioning on October 6. “The investigation is ongoing. We have arrested two individuals, and their interrogation continues. Others connected to the case will also be investigated,” stated MP Gupta, a senior officer involved with the SIT.
Authorities are also waiting for further forensic and document reports from Guwahati and Delhi, which are anticipated to provide additional insights into the ongoing investigation.
