India Urges Urgent UN Action Against Terrorism Exploiting Afghanistan
India is urging the international community to take decisive action against UN-listed terrorist organizations, specifically the Pakistan-based groups Lashkar-e-Tayyiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed. In a recent briefing to the United Nations Security Council regarding Afghanistan, India’s Permanent Ambassador to the UN, Parvathaneni Harish, emphasized the need for coordinated global efforts to prevent these groups from exploiting Afghan territory for terrorist activities.
During the briefing, Harish highlighted that India is closely monitoring the security situation in Afghanistan. He noted that India consistently supports regional and international cooperation aimed at assisting Afghanistan, participating actively in discussions such as those held in Doha. He also expressed India’s approval of Afghanistan’s strong condemnation of the terrorist attack in Pahalgam on April 22.
Harish asserted that any strategy for a post-conflict Afghanistan should include both incentives for positive actions and penalties for negative behaviors. He cautioned that merely punishing the Taliban would not be effective, advocating instead for innovative approaches to support the Afghan population. He referenced the recent catastrophic earthquake that struck southeastern Afghanistan, recalling that India was among the first to respond with aid.
In closing, Harish reaffirmed India’s unwavering commitment to assist the Afghan people, stressing that humanitarian aid and training programs remain top priorities for India as the country seeks to rebuild.
