Hemlata Pradhan, Udai’s wife and a distinguished botanical illustrator, expressed gratitude for this recognition, stating, “We are deeply honored by this recognition from such a distinguished institution. This award reflects a lifetime of dedication to the study, documentation, and conservation of plant life, particularly the rich flora of the Himalayas.”

His most recent work, “Indian Orchid Hybrids – A Personal Journey,” is a valued resource for researchers and avid plant enthusiasts.
A pioneer in orchid conservation, Pradhan has played a significant role as a breeder and researcher. His involvement with the Orchid Society of India and the IUCN Species Survival Commission (SSC) reflects his lasting impact on global horticulture. He has also held leadership positions, including past president of the Rotary Club of Kalimpong and former chair of the Indian Sub-Continent Regional Orchid Specialist Group (ISROSG).
