NEC Invests Rs 20.32 Crore to Transform Loktak Lake Tourism Experience
The Ministry of the North Eastern Council (NEC) has successfully upgraded a vital road in Manipur, incurring a cost of Rs 20.32 crore. This initiative aims to boost tourism and support local communities surrounding Loktak Lake, according to officials. The project included enhancements to the Moirang-Sendra Road, extending to Sendra Hillock, and improvements to the road linking Moirang-Sendra Road to Omba Hillock and Keina Bazar. In total, the upgrades cover a distance of 4.30 km.
Under the North East Special Infrastructure Development Scheme (NESIDS) Roads, this development now serves seven villages and impacts approximately 9,700 residents. The upgraded road is anticipated to significantly increase annual tourist traffic in the region, raising projections from 200,000 to 300,000 visitors.
This project is designed not only to improve connectivity and strengthen infrastructure but also to attract more tourists and stimulate local economic activity. A particular focus is on generating employment opportunities within the agriculture sector.
NESIDS (Roads) represents a central government initiative aimed at funding infrastructure development across the eight North Eastern states of India, prioritizing primary and secondary road networks along with other essential facilities.
