Remembering Rishang Keishing: Manipur Congress Commemorates Legacy
The Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) commemorated the 9th death anniversary of former Chief Minister and Member of Parliament Rishang Keishing today at Congress Bhavan on BT Road, Imphal. The event featured a floral tribute to the late leader and was attended by several prominent Congress figures, including former Chief Minister and CLP leader Okram Ibobi, MPCC President Keisham Meghachandra, Congress Working Committee member Gaikhangam, and former MP Th. Meinya Singh.
During the ceremony, CLP leader Okram Ibobi reflected on Keishing’s lasting contributions to Manipur, particularly his commitment to preserving the state’s territorial integrity. “Rishang Keishing was a distinguished figure in Manipur’s political landscape,” Ibobi stated. He highlighted that Keishing was the first MP elected from Manipur to the Lok Sabha and later served two terms in the Rajya Sabha, making him the state’s longest-serving MP. Additionally, he served as Chief Minister, leaving a legacy of dedicated public service and protection of Manipur’s integrity.
Ibobi urged younger generations to embrace Keishing’s ideals, emphasizing the necessity of unity and integrity within the state. He called for continued commitment to the principles and ideology established by the late leader, underlining their relevance in today’s political climate.
