Aspirants Sound Alarm Over AESE-2025 Prelims: Urgent Call to Action
A group of candidates has expressed serious concerns regarding the Arunachal Engineering Service Examination (AESE)-2025 prelims held for the position of assistant engineer across various departments. They have submitted a letter to the Arunachal Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC), which conducted the exam, requesting that their issues be thoroughly investigated.
In their letter, the candidates highlighted three primary issues. They alleged an overlap in the selected list, noting that 362 candidates appeared in both merit lists-one specifically for civil engineering positions and another that combined both civil and agricultural engineering roles. This overlap, they argue, has resulted in candidates being counted twice, disrupting the intended selection ratio.
The candidates stated, “As a consequence, the representation of candidates in the list of candidates shortlisted for the next stage is inadvertently reduced.” They referred to the commission’s official advertisement, which specified that candidates with degrees in agricultural engineering were eligible for the Rural Works, Water Resource, and Hydropower Development departments. In contrast, civil engineering graduates were eligible for these three departments as well as for Public Works, Public Health Engineering & Water Supply, Urban Development, and Urban Local Bodies. The aspirants pointed out that the dual listing of these 362 candidates was not authorized in the notification and was never clarified through any corrigendum or circular during the recruitment process.
Additionally, the candidates raised concerns regarding the application process, claiming that the notification required applicants to apply exclusively to specific engineering departments. They stated that no provision existed for dual eligibility or cross-division consideration between civil-exclusive and civil + agriculture common pool categories.
The aspirants also criticized the commission for failing to adhere to the 1:12 shortlisting ratio. Given that there are a total of 136 vacancies, they contended that 1,632 candidates should have been shortlisted for the mains, but only 1,257 were selected, thus violating this ratio. They questioned the use of preliminary examination marks for candidate segregation, emphasizing that the preliminary exam was meant to be purely qualifying. “As clearly stated in the advertisement, the preliminary examination is qualifying in nature, and as such, further selection decisions should not be based on marks obtained in the preliminary stage,” they noted.
They are seeking clarification from the commission on the criteria that allowed some candidates to be selected in both categories, and why this process was not communicated during the examination. They have also requested adherence to the 1:12 ratio for shortlisting candidates in both categories and called for a detailed investigation into the alleged errors in the candidate selection for the main AES examination.
In response to these concerns, the commission has denied any wrongdoing but has indicated that it will review the issues raised by the candidates.
