On August 4, Sikkim celebrated the sacred birth anniversary of Guru Padmasambhava, also known as Guru Rinpoche, with deep reverence and devotion. The Guru Chyendren procession, organized by the Sikkim Buddhist Duechen Organisation alongside other associations, featured a revered statue of Guru Rinpoche, which is cared for by Dodrupchen Rinpoche. The procession commenced with monks leading the way, playing traditional ritual instruments, followed by devotees and students chanting the Vajra Guru mantra. It wound through key locations such as Deorali, Metro Point, Zero Point, White Hall, and ultimately returned to Chorten Gonpa.

A significant highlight of the day was the unveiling of a rare Thanka, a sacred painting of Guru Rinpoche, which drew considerable attention and reverence from participants. Guru Padmasambhava, often referred to as the “Precious Master,” is regarded as the patron saint of Sikkim. He is celebrated as a supreme tantric master who subdued malevolent forces, transforming them into protectors of the Dharma. His birth anniversary occurs annually, accompanied by rituals and prayers that promote the well-being of all sentient beings.

Traditionally, the 10th day of each lunar month is recognized as Guru Tsechu, but Trungkar Tsechu holds particular importance as it celebrates Guru Rinpoche’s birth. The event concluded with heartfelt community prayers and offerings, reinforcing Sikkim’s rich spiritual traditions.
