The Ministry of Women and Child Development has announced an extension of the special registration drive for the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY) until the 15th of this month. This initiative is part of a door-to-door awareness and enrollment campaign led by Anganwadi and ASHA workers, which aims to ensure that all eligible pregnant and lactating women are registered in a timely manner.
The PMMVY is designed to provide financial assistance that supports nutritious diets for these women, thereby promoting better health-seeking behaviors. It also encourages positive societal attitudes towards the girl child, fostering an environment of inclusion and support.
According to the Ministry, since the program’s launch, over 4.05 crore beneficiaries have received maternity benefits, with at least one installment each, totaling an impressive 19,028 crore rupees. These funds have been distributed through direct benefit transfers to the recipients’ bank or post office accounts, highlighting the government’s commitment to enhancing the well-being of mothers and their children.
