Five Illegal Bangladeshi Immigrants Arrested in Meghalaya: Shocking Details Revealed
The Border Security Force (BSF) apprehended five Bangladeshi nationals in East Jaintia Hills district of Meghalaya for illegally crossing into India through the porous terrain along the Indo-Bangladesh border. According to a BSF statement released on Thursday, the individuals-two men, two women, and a girl-were intercepted by the 172 Battalion personnel on Wednesday after receiving a tip-off. They were found hiding in dense undergrowth near the border and were promptly detained.
The group reportedly entered India by exploiting a broken section of the border fence and admitted to paying an agent to assist them in reaching Chennai in search of work. Authorities located forged Indian identity documents, including Aadhaar cards and voter IDs, in their possession. Notably, one of the detained men had lived in India for nearly a year and spoke several Indian languages.
A BSF spokesperson commented, “This swift and coordinated action not only prevented a potential security breach but also highlights the alertness and professionalism of BSF personnel in securing the border.” Following their detention, all five individuals were turned over to local police for further legal proceedings. The BSF remains vigilant in patrolling the 444-km-long India-Bangladesh border in Meghalaya, which is characterized by its challenging geography and susceptibility to infiltration.
