Devastating Floods in Telangana: Navigating the Impact of Extreme Rainfall
In Telangana, several districts experienced heavy to extremely heavy rainfall over the past 24 hours, resulting in significant flooding of streams, lakes, and roads. Traffic diversions and emergency measures have been implemented in various areas. Mulugu and Komaram Bheem Asifabad districts were hit hardest, prompting officials to place the District Disaster Response Force (DDRF) on high alert. Bejjur in Asifabad recorded the highest rainfall at 236.5 mm, while Venkatapura in Mulugu saw 218.3 mm during the same period. Additionally, very heavy rainfall was reported in other locations, including Bhadradri Kothagudem and Karimnagar districts.
Mulugu district collector Divakar TS has urged residents to refrain from venturing outdoors, particularly across bridges and highways where floodwaters are flowing. Fishermen have also been advised to remain ashore for their safety. Traffic disruptions occurred due to a temporary road being affected over the Ralla Vagu stream in the district. Residents in low-lying areas near the Godavari River have been asked to prepare for potential relocation, with facilities being set up at rehabilitation centers. Those living in older, unsafe houses are also encouraged to seek safer accommodations to avoid risks associated with the severe weather conditions.
