Investment Summit Sparks Promising Multi-Sector Growth in Guwahati
Guwahati: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Monday that the Advantage Assam investment and infrastructure summit, held in February, has laid the groundwork for the state’s evolution into a significant multi-sector growth catalyst. He noted that the state cabinet recently approved the allocation of government land for a 500-bed super-specialty hospital and a five-star hotel, which are projected to create over 2,700 direct jobs, while also enhancing medical tourism and access to quality healthcare.
Last Friday, the cabinet also authorized government land for 336 infrastructure projects, alongside 45 projects from corporations and boards, benefiting 3,247 non-individual juridical entities, and 28 central government departments. In a statement on his social media platform X, the Chief Minister highlighted the commitments from the summit, affirming that the Assam Cabinet approved land for the Medanta Hospital and Lemon Tree Hotel in Guwahati.
The establishment of a 500-bed Medanta Hospital and a 100-bed Women’s and Child Hospital in central Guwahati is part of this initiative, along with the development of the five-star Lemon Tree Hotel. These projects are expected to attract a combined investment of over ₹800 crores, significantly bolstering both medical and leisure tourism in the region.
The new facilities are anticipated to improve access to advanced healthcare services, particularly in specialized treatments and maternal care. State officials believe that merging premium healthcare and hospitality will position Guwahati as a regional hub for domestic and international patients, meeting the increasing demand for quality urban infrastructure.
These developments align with the government’s broader vision of transforming Assam into an investment-friendly locale, enriched with modern amenities, job opportunities, and enhanced public services. CM Sarma previously stated that the state’s industrial landscape is on the verge of a significant transformation, spurred by the successful Advantage Assam 2.0 summit, which attracted investments worth at least ₹4.5 lakh crores.
During the inauguration of a private hospital established under an agreement from the Advantage Assam 2.0 summit, the Chief Minister indicated that the government has signed multiple MoUs across various sectors, many of which are currently in different stages of implementation. He mentioned that while some companies have already begun operations, others have inaugurated their projects, and a few are engaging with the government to advance their plans.
