Tragic Landslide Injures 4 Pilgrims at Vaishno Devi: Urgent Orange Alert Issued for Uttarakhand and 3 States Amidst Devastating Rains!
Heavy rainfall in Jammu and Kashmir’s Reasi district triggered a landslide along the old track leading to the Vaishno Devi shrine on Monday morning, leaving four pilgrims injured. According to officials, the incident occurred at approximately 8:50 AM near Gulshan Ka Langar, a popular gathering spot for pony riders at the start of the pilgrimage route.
Pilgrims who flock to the sacred shrine nestled atop the Trikuta hills found shelter in the Katra base camp as the downpour intensified. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has since issued an orange alert for Coastal Karnataka, cautioning fishermen against venturing into the Arabian Sea. Additionally, the agency has placed Telangana, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand under the same warning for heavy rain.
The IMD’s latest bulletin forecasted isolated very heavy rainfall in Uttarakhand on July 21 and 22, and similar conditions for Himachal Pradesh from July 21 to 23. Heavy rainfall is also expected in Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir from July 21 to 24, with additional alerts for West and East Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Haryana.
The weather agency warned of “isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall” affecting regions such as Kerala, Coastal Karnataka, and South Interior Karnataka until July 26, and Tamil Nadu until July 22. Last weekend, heavy rains lashed Kerala, prompting a red alert due to rising water levels in rivers and dams, waterlogging, and flooding in low-lying areas.
As the monsoon season continues to rage across India, the IMD has issued yellow alerts for various regions, advising residents to remain vigilant.
In the National Capital Region, the weather is expected to shift to a “partly cloudy sky” that will become generally overcast. Light rain, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning, is predicted. The minimum temperature on July 21 is anticipated to hover around 26 to 28 degrees Celsius, while the maximum temperature may fall slightly below normal, reaching 32 to 34 degrees Celsius.
As weather patterns shift and extreme conditions become more prevalent, authorities are urging both local residents and travelers to stay informed and cautious in these challenging climatic circumstances.
