Iga Swiatek Claims First Wimbledon Title with Stunning 6-0 Victory

Former World No. 1 Iga Swiatek etched her name in history at Wimbledon 2025 by claiming her first Ladies Singles title and her sixth Grand Slam overall, achieving a remarkable 6-0, 6-0 victory over Amanda Anisimova in the final on Saturday. This win at the All England Club solidifies Swiatek’s status as a versatile Grand Slam champion, having now triumphed on synthetic, clay, and grass surfaces.

Poland’s Swiatek showcased her dominance with a swift 57-minute match, marking only the second occasion in the Open Era where a Grand Slam singles final concluded with a double bagel. Notably, this feat echoed the 1988 final when Steffi Graf defeated Natalia Zvereva in similar fashion.

Swiatek’s journey to this title comes after capturing her fourth Roland Garros trophy in June, bringing her major final record to a flawless 6-0. This victory also makes her the first player from Poland to win a Wimbledon singles title in the Open Era and marks Swiatek’s 100th career Grand Slam match win, boasting an impressive 100-20 record since her debut in 2019.

The match began with Swiatek asserting her control, delivering the first 6-0 opening set in a women’s singles final at Wimbledon since 1983, when Martina Navratilova defeated Andrea Jaeger. The finals from 1973-1975 also featured 6-0 opening sets, including Billie Jean King’s notable win over an 18-year-old Chris Evert in 1973.

In the second set, Anisimova began to find her rhythm, hitting a powerful 90-mph forehand that leveled the score to 30-30 while Swiatek served at 6-0, 1-0. However, Swiatek’s relentless play prevented any significant shift on the scoreboard, joining the ranks of Stefanie Graf as one of the few players to win a major final without losing a game.

Despite the final’s outcome, Anisimova’s performance at Wimbledon 2025 marked a significant career milestone, highlighted by her first victory over a World No. 1, Aryna Sabalenka, in the semifinals. She is set to break into the Top 10 for the first time in her career on Monday, a testament to her growth and potential in the sport.
