Farmers along the Thanjavur-Tiruchi border have voiced their frustration over substantial water releases into the Kollidam River at Mukkombu, which they argue exacerbates their irrigation challenges. On Saturday, these farmers, led by V. Jeevakumar, a progressive farmer from Budalur, gathered at the dry expanse of the ‘Miniyan’ lake in Palayapatti near Sengipatti to demonstrate their concerns. They rallied, calling for a diversion of approximately 50,000 cusecs of “surplus” water from the Kollidam into the Kattalimettu Kalvai and Uyyakondan Extension Canal.
