In a significant initiative to ensure accurate identity records for children and adolescents, the Imphal West District Administration has launched an extensive Aadhaar biometric update drive, aimed at addressing over 114,000 pending updates. This initiative follows a notification from Deputy Commissioner Mayanglambam Rajkumar Singh, which mandates Aadhaar biometric updates for children at the ages of 5 and 15, in accordance with UIDAI guidelines. This measure is essential to prevent duplication, generate APAAR IDs for academic documentation, and facilitate access to education, healthcare, and welfare schemes.
Official data indicates that there are 65,487 pending updates for children who recently turned five, along with 48,519 updates for those aged fifteen, resulting in a total of 114,006 updates pending specifically in Imphal West. Aadhaar enrolment figures in Manipur remain notably lower than national averages. For children aged 0 to 5, the enrolment in Manipur is at just 12.09%, compared to the national average of 39.54%. Among children aged 5 to 18, the enrolment rate is 82.40%, while the national average is significantly higher at 98.89%.
The notification calls on parents and guardians to ensure that these updates are completed by August 31, 2025, at the nearest Aadhaar Operator Centres. In support of this initiative, the Deputy Commissioner has instructed all Block Development Officers, Municipal Executive Officers, and the IMC Commissioner to formulate action plans by ward and to provide weekly progress reports every Friday.
Lists of official Aadhaar operators associated with UNINGTHOU and MANITRON will be made available on the official website of the Deputy Commissioner, Imphal West. This update drive is anticipated to enhance Aadhaar-linked service delivery across education and healthcare under the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) and other welfare programs, thereby improving identity coverage for the youth in Imphal West.
