Discover Health Foundations: TSMC’s President Unveils AYUSH Centre Plans
Agartala, 28th June 2025: Sunil Gangopadhyay’s renowned poem, “Keu Kotha Rakheni” (No One Kept Their Word), reflects on the theme of broken promises. However, the Tripura Santiniketan Medical College, led by President Malay Pit, stands as an exception to this narrative. Having successfully established the institution, Pit has now announced plans to create an AYUSH center, supported by the state government. This center will dedicate itself to the study, practice, and research of alternative medical systems including Ayurveda, Homeopathy, and Yoga.
When the construction of the Tripura Santiniketan Medical College commenced in Ranir Khamar, near Agartala, Pit confidently declared that MBBS courses would begin in the 2024-25 academic year. This declaration was met with skepticism, with many dismissing it as empty rhetoric. Yet, Pit has transformed this ambitious vision into reality. The college not only gained the necessary approvals from the National Medical Commission (NMC) to launch the MBBS courses on schedule but also made a notable mark on both the national and continental stage. In its inaugural academic year, the college welcomed students from 21 states, achieving an extraordinary milestone in medical education. This success has invigorated both the health and education sectors.
In collaboration with the state government, construction has already begun on a 650-bed hospital, which is set to expand into an 1100-bed super-specialty facility in the future. Further advancing this initiative, President Malay Pit announced today that the AYUSH center will be situated adjacent to the medical college, with the backing and agreement of the state government.
During an address to students at the college, Pit also revealed plans to introduce postgraduate courses at Tripura Santiniketan Medical College. The AYUSH center will be developed outside the main campus, concentrating on alternative medicine for study, research, and practice, again with the state’s cooperation.
In his speech, Pit stressed the significance of maintaining a balanced lifestyle for good health and unveiled several initiatives aimed at enhancing human resources in Tripura.
