Breaking: HNLC Cadres Surrender in Meghalaya After Escaping Bangladesh Hideout
Two members of the banned Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) have surrendered to police in Meghalaya, expressing disillusionment with the organization’s operations and their treatment from senior leadership. Dibarius Jyrwa, 32, and Ridor Lyngdoh Nonglait, 30, both hailing from the Eastern West Khasi Hills district, presented themselves to the Superintendent of Police in Mairang after fleeing from Bangladesh, where they had been stationed for over a year.
The men revealed to investigators that they were recruited by Samuel Wahlang Pahsyntiew, who is currently wanted by authorities in connection with the bombing at Shillong Syndicate Bus Stand. Pahsyntiew faces charges under several legal provisions, including the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act and the Explosive Substances Act, due to his alleged involvement in the IED blast.
According to police sources, both Jyrwa and Nonglait felt misled regarding their roles in the militant organization. Instead of being involved in activities that aligned with HNLC’s stated goals, they were reportedly assigned menial tasks, such as agricultural work, which contradicted the group’s propaganda.
Over the course of 15 months of service under senior HNLC commanders, their dissatisfaction grew, ultimately pushing them to abandon their posts. On June 20, they fled from Bangladesh with the intention of reintegrating into mainstream society.
The two surrenderees are currently being held at a secure facility while police assess the appropriate next steps in their cases. Their cooperation with law enforcement could provide valuable insights into HNLC operations and organizational structure.
