Empowering Change: CM Rekha Gupta Unveils Tech-Driven Grievance Redress Initiatives at Community Camps!
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced on Sunday, June 22, 2025, that her administration is embracing advanced technology and enhancing direct communication with citizens to more effectively address public grievances. Emphasizing her government’s dedication to resolving issues, Gupta stated that the Delhi government is aligned with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of transparent and efficient governance.
In her remarks, Gupta highlighted that public complaints are being tackled efficiently through public hearing centers led by District Magistrates (DMs) every weekend. She also introduced a 24/7 Public Grievance Monitoring System (PGMS) to streamline the handling of concerns. According to her office, these “jan sunwayi” (public hearing) camps are now taking place in all 11 revenue districts, attended by senior officials from various city departments, including the Municipal Corporation and Delhi Police.
The Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) reported a shift in venue for these hearings, moving from traditional government offices to community-friendly spaces such as schools, local chaupals, and banquet halls. This approach aims to make the grievance resolution process more accessible and welcoming to residents. During these sessions, officials strive to resolve issues immediately, while unresolved matters are directed to the relevant departments for prompt follow-up. Local MLAs, municipal councillors, Resident Welfare Associations, and community members are also involved in these gatherings.
Recent participation numbers reflect strong community engagement, with over 600 attendees at the last weekend’s sessions. Previous camps saw participation from 1,260 people on May 17 and over 1,350 on May 24. The CMO characterized these events as a testament to the government’s commitment to active listening and rapid action.
In response to ongoing feedback, Gupta has ordered the placement of ‘complaint and suggestion’ boxes in the offices of DMs, Sub-District Magistrates, and Sub-Registrars for better public input. She indicated plans to develop multiple channels for complaints, including WhatsApp, mobile applications, and toll-free lines, following concerns that the current online complaint portal has become unreliable.
Furthermore, Gupta has directed officials to prioritize attendance at District Development Committee (DDC) meetings and remain present at jan sunwayi camps. She emphasized her personal commitment to citizen engagement, stating, “Public trust is our greatest strength. Our government is alert, compassionate, and committed to resolving every issue.” She invoked Prime Minister Modi’s philosophy that governance should focus on service rather than control, reaffirming her commitment to accountability.
Responding to Chief Minister Gupta’s initiatives, the Aam Aadmi Party expressed skepticism. In a statement, they argued that citizens are frustrated with escalating school fees, demolition of slums, power outages, water shortages, and flooding, leading to protests across the city. The party criticized the BJP’s administration as failing to solve pressing issues, questioning the efficacy of the public hearing efforts and contrasting them with the governance of the previous Arvind Kejriwal-led administration.
As Gupta pursues her plans to enhance public engagement and streamline grievance resolution, the response from the community and political rivals will undoubtedly shape the ongoing discourse around governance in Delhi.
