RPF Triumphs: 5 kg of Ganja Seized Aboard Tatanagar-Yesvantpur Express – A Bold Stand Against Drug Trafficking!
The Railway Protection Force (RPF) achieved a significant victory against drug trafficking, seizing 5.05 kg of ganja aboard the Tatanagar-Yesvantpur Express on June 14, 2025. This operation, part of an ongoing initiative called Operation NARCOS, took place during a surprise inspection along the Birur-Kadur section of the train route.
A specialized team executed the check on Train No. 18111, leading to the discovery of the illegal substance in the possession of Mahendra Das. The 57-year-old, who hails from Sona Village in Bihar and is employed as bedroll staff, was found with a bag containing the drugs valued at approximately ₹3.03 lakh. Alongside the ganja, authorities also confiscated a mobile phone, estimated at around ₹7,000.
The operation was coordinated by a team led by assistant sub-inspector B. Ananda, along with head constable T. Shivananda and constable Mujammil Khan, under the direction of J.R. Sam Prashanth, Senior Divisional Security Commissioner for the RPF in Mysuru. Following the discovery, the case was transferred to the Excise Department, which registered multiple offenses under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act of 1985. Inspector Sandeep L.C. from the Kadur Excise Department completed the necessary legal formalities to secure the seized narcotics.
This successful operation underscores the RPF’s unwavering commitment to combatting drug trafficking through railway networks, aiming to enhance public safety and preserve the integrity of Indian Railways. Such proactive measures reflect the agency’s dedication to maintaining safe and secure travel for millions, ensuring that railways do not become conduits for illegal activities.
As investigations continue, the RPF urges the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to prevent the spread of narcotics. The RPF’s prompt action not only thwarted this attempt at smuggling but also sent a clear message that drug trafficking will not be tolerated within the railway system.
This incident occurred against a backdrop of increasing efforts across India to address the challenge of narcotics. Railways, being a vital mode of transport, have often been exploited by traffickers, making the RPF’s role in safeguarding these routes crucial. The implications of this operation extend beyond a single arrest-highlighting the ongoing battle against drugs in India’s rail corridors, reinforcing the importance of collaboration and vigilance among law enforcement agencies.
In a time when drug-related issues present significant societal challenges, the RPF’s actions exemplify effective law enforcement dedicated to making rail travel safer for all patrons.
