Mysuru, the cultural heart of Karnataka, shines brightly during the rainy season, offering breathtaking landscapes perfect for scenic road trips. The area’s beauty is enhanced by lush greenery, cascading waterfalls, misty mountains, and serene lakes, making it an ideal destination for nature lovers and adventure seekers alike. This monsoon, explore five enchanting routes near Mysuru that promise stunning views and memorable experiences.

The first top destination is B.R. Hills, located approximately 85 kilometers from Mysuru, with a travel time of about two hours. Nestled within the Western Ghats, the Biligiri Rangaswamy Temple Wildlife Sanctuary transforms into a vibrant natural paradise during the rains. Rich with dense forests and babbling streams, it attracts wildlife enthusiasts and photographers eager to capture mist-laden vistas. Visitors can embark on jungle safaris to spot majestic elephants, leopards, and deer, while also exploring tribal villages along the way.

Next up is Ooty, accessible via Bandipur National Park, roughly 140 kilometers from Mysuru, taking about 3.5 hours to reach. Ooty, known as the “Queen of Hill Stations,” offers a relaxing journey filled with opportunities to sight diverse wildlife, including tigers and sloth bears, as travelers navigate the park. The vibrant emerald of the deciduous forests during the monsoon makes the ride particularly scenic, with attractions like tea gardens, Botanical Gardens, and Doddabetta Peak awaiting visitors.

Coorg, also known as the “Scotland of India,” is about 120 kilometers from Mysuru, a journey of roughly three hours. This region is celebrated for its picturesque hills and coffee plantations. The monsoon enhances Coorg’s charm, bringing forth its dramatic waterfalls, particularly Abbey Falls and Iruppu Falls. The drive to Coorg is enchanting, featuring winding roads bordered by towering trees and lush agricultural fields. Visitors can savor local delicacies and partake in activities like trekking or river rafting, immersing themselves in the tranquil beauty of the plantations.

Just 90 kilometers from Mysuru lies Nagarhole National Park, taking about two hours to explore. Part of the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve, this sanctuary is renowned for its biodiversity, attracting nature aficionados and shutterbugs alike. The park becomes even more enchanting during the rains, with jeep safaris allowing guests to observe elephants, spotted deer, and bison at waterholes. The Kabini River reflects the lush forest and azure sky, providing a stunning visual treat.

Lastly, a visit to Shivanasamudra Falls is essential, located around 80 kilometers from Mysuru and accessible in about two hours. This waterfall, formed by the Cauvery River, swells dramatically during the monsoon, with its twin cascades of Gaganachukki and Barachukki creating a powerful roar as they plunge from rocky heights. A serene cruise on the Cauvery River is a perfect way to unwind while taking in the surrounding scenery, including various temples and historical sites that add to the cultural richness of the experience.
