Smriti Irani: The Impact of Her Tenure as Union Minister
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, alongside former Union Minister Smriti Irani and BJP Mahila Morcha national president Vanathi Srinivasan, led a Tiranga Yatra in the capital to pay tribute to the Indian Armed Forces for their pivotal role in Operation Sindoor. During the yatra, which took place on Monday, Irani underscored the importance of Operation Sindoor, declaring it a symbol of national commitment. She stated, “Operation Sindoor is a representation, a pledge of our country. It’s not merely a mission of our Armed Forces but a direct message to terrorists that when they target the women of our nation, the whole country, the Government of India, and our Armed Forces will stand firm to protect them.”
Irani expressed admiration for the families of Indian soldiers stationed at the borders, stating, “Our ‘sindoor’ is secure because they are defending it at the borders. We pay our respects to these women and our Armed Forces. We are also grateful to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his promise to ensure that the nation remains strong and unyielding.”
She praised the Prime Minister’s resolute statement, assuring that Operation Sindoor would persist until every terrorist camp has been dismantled. “Together with the Indian Armed Forces, we have shown a powerful response to Pakistan. A clear message has been conveyed by the PM, the Government, and the armed forces: Operation Sindoor will continue until every terrorist camp is destroyed,” said Irani.
Chief Minister Gupta proclaimed that today, all women across the nation pay homage to the Indian Armed Forces. She shared heartfelt gratitude for how the Armed Forces have safeguarded the dignity of millions of women, secured national borders, and eradicated terrorist camps. “The decisions taken by PM Narendra Modi, the Indian Armed Forces, and the Government of India reflect their commitment to protect the honor of 1.4 billion citizens,” she added.
Gupta emphasized, “The Prime Minister ordered the armed forces to neutralize every terrorist camp in Pakistan. Pakistan received a fitting response. The 1.4 billion citizens of India stand united. These women lend their support to the Armed Forces and the Government. To convey this message, women have organized the Tiranga Yatra, the Sindoor Yatra.”
Meanwhile, Vanathi Srinivasan highlighted that during the ongoing Tiranga Yatra, women across every village, town, and district have been proudly carrying the national flag, expressing their sincere appreciation to the Armed Forces and Prime Minister Modi for ensuring the nation’s safety and security.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) initiated the ‘Tiranga Yatra’ on May 13, which will run through May 23. The purpose of the yatra is to honor the bravery of Indian soldiers and to educate the public about the recent triumphs of Operation Sindoor.
Operation Sindoor was launched on May 7 as a response to the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam that resulted in the deaths of 26 civilians. As part of this operation, the Indian Armed Forces targeted terrorist infrastructures deep within Pakistan and in Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, successfully neutralizing over 100 terrorists linked to Jaish-e-Mohammed, Lashkar-e-Taiba, and Hizbul Mujahideen.
In retaliation, Pakistan responded with cross-border shelling and attempted drone strikes. In turn, India carried out coordinated airstrikes that damaged critical military infrastructure across 11 Pakistani airbases. On May 10, both countries announced an agreement to halt hostilities.
