New Alert: ‘Bird Wing’ Solar Eruption May Impact Earth Soon!
A significant solar eruption, dubbed the “bird-wing” event, is poised to potentially impact Earth tomorrow, as warned by astronomers. This remarkable occurrence involves an eruption of superheated plasma surging from the Sun’s northern hemisphere. NASA’s observation satellites captured this extraordinary event, where the plasma—over a million kilometers in length—was more than twice the distance from Earth to the Moon. Although this eruption took place far from our planet, experts believe it could still affect Earth.
Aurora chaser Jure Atanackov has expressed concerns that this solar activity might lead to a major geomagnetic storm that could exceed typical weather phenomena. The radiation from these solar flares has already caused radio blackouts on the sun-facing side of the Earth, affecting regions across North and South America, Europe, Africa, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia, according to Live Science.
Solar flares are sudden bursts of electromagnetic radiation triggered by intense magnetic activity on the Sun’s surface. When the stress on magnetic field lines becomes excessive, they snap and realign, releasing vast amounts of stored energy. The recent solar flare also produced a coronal mass ejection (CME), which is an explosive release of charged solar plasma often ejected simultaneously with a solar flare. While solar flares travel at the speed of light, CMEs move between 250 and 3,000 kilometers per second, taking several days to reach Earth.
As scientists monitor these developments, they emphasize the importance of understanding solar phenomena and their potential implications for our planet.
