Defence Minister Rajnath Singh Visits Bhuj After Pakistan’s Airbase Threat
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh arrived at the Bhuj Airbase in Gujarat on Friday, an airbase that Pakistan attempted to target recently. His visit follows a series of aerial conflicts in the region, during which Pakistan reportedly launched drone and missile attacks, all of which were successfully repelled by Indian forces. Singh, accompanied by Air Chief Marshal AP Singh, expressed his eagerness to connect with the brave Air Warriors stationed there, stating on X, “I am looking forward to interacting with our courageous Air Warriors at Bhuj Air Force Station.”
Additionally, Singh highlighted his plans to visit Smritivan, a memorial and museum envisioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi as a tribute to those who perished in the 2001 earthquake. The state of Gujarat, which shares a 508-kilometer border with Pakistan, has faced increased threats, particularly from drone incursions during the recent four-day military conflict.
On Thursday, Rajnath Singh also visited Jammu and Kashmir, one of the most severely affected regions amid escalating tensions. While addressing soldiers in Srinagar, he raised critical concerns regarding the safety of Pakistan’s nuclear weapons, calling for international oversight. He urged the United Nations’ International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to assume responsibility for monitoring Pakistan’s nuclear arsenal.
“The whole world has seen how irresponsibly Pakistan has threatened India. Today, from the land of Srinagar, I pose this question: are nuclear weapons safe in the hands of such an irresponsible and rogue nation?” Singh emphasized, advocating for the supervision of Pakistan’s nuclear capabilities by the IAEA.
