Himanta Biswa Sarma: Assam CM’s Bold Statement on India-Pakistan Conflict
NEW DELHI: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that the Indian Army has killed over 100 terrorists during Operation Sindoor strikes in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). This operation targeted individuals responsible for the 1999 IC-814 hijacking and the 2019 Pulwama attack. The operation was initiated as a response to the Pahalgam terror attack, as confirmed by Director General of Military Operations, Lieutenant General Rajiv Ghai, at a press conference on Sunday. Sarma commended Prime Minister Modi and the Indian Army for the successful operation and issued a warning to Pakistan regarding potential retaliation for ceasefire violations.
During the press briefing, Sarma emphasized the unprecedented nature of the operation. “DGMO explained all the strikes Indian armed forces did in Pakistan. No country has ever killed over 100 militants in another country,” he stated, reinforcing the message that India would pursue terrorists regardless of their hiding places. He expressed gratitude towards the Prime Minister, noting, “For the first time, India killed over 100 terrorists using missiles… If Pakistan violates the ceasefire, Indian forces will give a befitting reply.”
The operation effectively eliminated several high-value targets, including Yusuf Azhar, Abdul Malik Rauf, and Mudasir Ahmed, who were implicated in significant terrorist activities against India. Lieutenant General Ghai articulated that “Operation Sindoor was conceptualized with a clear military aim to punish the perpetrators and planners of terror and to dismantle their terror infrastructure.”
The Director General of Military Operations highlighted that more than 100 terrorists were killed across nine terror hubs, including the aforementioned high-value targets linked to the IC-814 hijacking and the Pulwama blast. The Indian Air Force and Navy played critical roles in the success of the operation, engaging terror camps and providing precision munitions.
Ghai also noted that after the strikes, Pakistan violated the line of control, leading to civilian casualties as their erratic response hit inhabited villages and religious sites such as Gurudwaras. This unfortunate outcome resulted in tragic loss of lives. He added that the Indian Air Force had deployed assets in the region to engage the terror camps effectively.
In the aftermath of the strikes, numerous terror hubs were either vacated or abandoned due to fears of further retaliation.
