Transform Lives Today: The Inspiring 1 Rupee Project for Change
A vibrant vision for the future of Kohima is taking shape with the announcement of a new community-driven initiative called the “1 Rupee Project for Change.” Launched by local MLA Dr. Tseilhoutuo (Ato) Rhutso, this groundbreaking program encourages citizens to contribute just Rs 1 a day to support various developmental projects across the city.
In a bid to foster civic responsibility and encourage collective action, Dr. Ato made the announcement during the inauguration of an Outdoor Fitness Gym at Officers’ Hill along Raj Bhavan Road on May 7. The initiative aims to engage urban residents in taking an active role in their community’s development rather than relying solely on government efforts.
Dr. Ato emphasized the importance of community involvement, stating, “It is time we contribute. This project is about people coming together, giving back, and building a better Kohima through collective effort. Let us contribute—it will bring great change.” The MLA, who represents the 9th Kohima Town Assembly Constituency, outlined that donations could be made on a monthly basis (Rs 30) or as an annual contribution (Rs 365), offering flexibility for all citizens wishing to participate.
The funds generated through the “1 Rupee Project for Change” will be utilized for essential public services such as maintaining footpaths, improving drainage systems, enhancing sanitation, and repairing roads. Dr. Ato assured the community that the project would be managed transparently, with a dedicated bank account set up to oversee contributions. Details regarding the account will be shared publicly in the near future.
The initiative is designed to cultivate a sense of ownership among residents, highlighting that real change comes from collective action and shared investment in the community’s future. Dr. Ato called for active participation, urging citizens to join in this transformative endeavor to build a better Kohima.
As urban landscapes continue to evolve, initiatives like the “1 Rupee Project for Change” stand to empower locals, provide necessary improvements, and strengthen the fabric of community life. With a small daily contribution, residents have the opportunity to make a significant impact, reinforcing the notion that small efforts can lead to monumental changes.
This grassroots approach reflects a growing trend in urban development, where citizens are encouraged to take charge of their environments through collaborative efforts. As Kohima moves forward, the focus on civic engagement and community responsibility may set a precedent for other cities aiming for sustainable development.
Kohima’s residents are encouraged not only to donate but also to advocate for the initiative, reinforcing the idea that positive change is a shared responsibility. As the city gears up for this exciting program, it marks a pivotal moment in civic participation and community-focused development, steering Kohima towards a brighter and more prosperous future.
