BSF Dismantles Drug Trade: Seizes Rs 3.38 Crore Narcotics at India-Bangladesh Border!
Kolkata, May 5: In a significant operation along the Indo-Bangladesh Border (IBB), the Border Security Force (BSF) has seized narcotics valued at approximately Rs 3.38 crore in the Murshidabad district of West Bengal. This was confirmed by authorities on Monday.
The incident occurred around 2:30 a.m. on Sunday when personnel from the 71 Bn BSF, stationed at Border Outpost Khandua, noticed two individuals exhibiting suspicious behavior behind the Domination Line. The troops illuminated the area with their torches and instructed the suspects to halt. However, the individuals fled towards Atrosia village, using the cover of darkness and nearby structures to evade capture. N.K. Pandey, the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) and spokesperson for the South Bengal Frontier of the BSF, emphasized that the troops refrained from using weapons to prevent collateral damage.
Following the chase, BSF units launched an extensive search operation in the vicinity, combing through bushes and surrounding locations. Their efforts led to the discovery of a plastic bag, which contained two packets wrapped in brown tape. One packet held ten small cellophane sachets filled with a light yellow powder that appeared to be a narcotic substance, while the other packet included two additional sachets, one containing brown powder and the other with light yellow powder.
Upon further examination, laboratory tests confirmed that the contents consisted of heroin weighing 100 grams and methaqualone weighing 1.060 kg. The estimated street value for the seized heroin is about Rs 20,00,000, while the methaqualone is valued at nearly Rs 3,18,00,000. The narcotics have been handed over to appropriate authorities for further legal proceedings.
DIG Pandey hailed this operation as a significant victory in the ongoing fight against narcotics and smuggling along the Indo-Bangladesh Border. He commended the bravery and vigilance of the BSF personnel, stating, “All credit goes to the courageous BSF jawans, who remain alert around the clock and are committed to thwarting every smuggling attempt.” He noted that the continued alertness and rapid response of the BSF are contributing to the declining morale of smugglers, which he regarded as a critical achievement for the force.
As illegal drug trafficking continues to pose a challenge in the region, the BSF remains steadfast in its mission to combat such activities, bolstered by the support and bravery of its troops.
