A senior UNICEF official indicates anticipated budget reductions of up to 20% by 2026, with discussions underway about relocating staff from New York to Valencia, Spain, to mitigate impacts on child-support programs.
Prior actions included relocating the U.N.’s Population Fund to Nairobi, Kenya, reflecting strategic moves to manage rising costs. Meanwhile, Tom Fletcher, the top humanitarian chief, announced plans to downsize operations, enforce hiring freezes, and implement staff reductions across several countries.
