PM Modi Takes Charge: Key Meetings Set to Address Pahalgam Attack Aftermath

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to lead a series of critical meetings on Wednesday to assess the nation’s security measures following the tragic terror attack in Pahalgam on April 22, which claimed the lives of 26 individuals. This meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) marks the second gathering since the incident, with Modi also slated to convene the Cabinet Committee on Political Affairs thereafter.

In the aftermath of the Pahalgam attack, the CCS convened just two days later to evaluate the security landscape of the country, placing security forces on heightened alert and pledging that those responsible for the atrocity would face justice.

Following the CCS meeting, the Cabinet’s Economic Affairs Committee will convene, leading into a broader Cabinet meeting.

Amid these developments, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi is scheduled to visit Kanpur on Wednesday to meet with the family of Shubham Dwivedi, one of the victims of the Pahalgam attack. Ajay Rai, president of the UP Congress Committee, confirmed that Gandhi would visit after completing his engagements in Raebareli and Amethi, both of which are significant to his political history. During this visit, Gandhi aims to express condolences and support for the grieving family, reaffirming the Congress party’s commitment to national unity during times of crisis.

Earlier in the day, both Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Gandhi penned a letter to Prime Minister Modi advocating for a joint session of Parliament to address the Pahalgam incident. Rai emphasized Gandhi’s swift response to the attack, noting how he traveled to Kashmir to connect with the victims’ families immediately after the strike. “In matters of national unity, the Congress party has always prioritized the nation. Rahul’s visit demonstrates our solidarity with the victims’ families,” Rai stated, having attended the last rites of Dwivedi.

In another significant update, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath visited Kanpur to express his condolences to Dwivedi’s family. Following the meeting, he vowed to ensure that no effort would be spared to bring the perpetrators of the Pahalgam attack to justice.

Meanwhile, AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi announced a planned protest against the Waqf (Amendment) Act on April 30, urging citizens to turn off their lights for 15 minutes as a symbolic gesture. Owaisi contended that the Act undermines constitutional rights and disrupts Waqf Board operations, calling for public awareness and action against it.

Additionally, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is set to partake in the inauguration of the newly constructed Jagannath Temple in Digha on Wednesday. This event coincides with the auspicious occasion of Akshay Tritiya, with Banerjee anticipated to participate in the ritual Mahayajna. The temple, designed to mirror the historic shrine in Puri, aims to foster community convergence and boost Digha’s status as a tourist destination.

Against the backdrop of these political and social developments, the incidents surrounding the Pahalgam attack and subsequent responses underscore the ongoing emphasis on security and unity in the face of national challenges.
