Unforgettable Platinum Jubilee Celebration: Karnataka Public School Hiriyadka Shines in Legacy and Excellence Starting April 27
The Karnataka Public School in Hiriyadka is set to commemorate a significant milestone with its platinum jubilee celebrations, marking 75 years of commitment to education. The inauguration of this momentous occasion will take place on April 27, 2025, as confirmed by Kuyilady Suresh Nayak, the president of the platinum jubilee celebrations committee, during a press briefing in Udupi. This event promises to be a year-long series of festivities, concluding in January 2026, with Kaup MLA Gurme Suresh Shetty slated to lead the inaugural ceremony.
Founded in 1950 as the ‘Hiriyadka Board High School,’ this educational institution has undergone significant transformations over the decades. It was upgraded to a pre-university college in 1975 and was designated as a Karnataka Public School by the state government in the 2019-20 academic year. Today, it serves approximately 1,800 students from nearby villages, consistently delivering commendable academic results.
Mr. Nayak emphasized that the jubilee celebrations will serve as a reunion platform, bringing together alumni, current students, teachers, and the community. “The events will illustrate the school’s remarkable journey from its modest beginnings to becoming a cornerstone of education in the region,” he remarked. Highlighting this legacy are notable alumni such as former vice-chancellor of Manipal Academy of Higher Education and senior cardiologist B. M. Hegde, agricultural economist N. S. Shetty, and IAS officer H. Rajesh Prasad.
The school’s principal, Manjunath Bhat, expressed pride in the faculty’s dedication to providing a holistic education, supporting both Kannada and English as mediums of instruction. Reflecting on its tradition of excellence, he recalled how former Chief Election Commissioner, the late T. N. Seshan, graced the golden jubilee celebrations as the chief guest.
Another significant aspect of the celebrations will be the development of the school’s infrastructure, with an estimated budget of ₹1 crore. This funding is expected to come from philanthropic contributions, ensuring enhanced facilities for future generations. This project underscores the community’s ongoing investment in education, a value cherished across Udupi, which hosts a total of nine Karnataka Public Schools.
As preparations commence for the year-long celebrations, the Karnataka Public School in Hiriyadka continues to stand as a testament to the enduring value of quality education and community spirit.
