CM Khandu Honors IAF Hero: A Heartfelt Tribute to Our Brave Defender
Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu has paid a heartfelt tribute to Indian Air Force Corporal Tage Hailyang, who was tragically killed in a terrorist attack in Pahalgam on April 22. Describing Hailyang as a symbol of bravery and selflessness, Khandu remarked that his name would be forever remembered in the history of Arunachal Pradesh. “In the face of grave danger, Tage Hailyang demonstrated exceptional courage. He had the chance to escape but chose instead to protect those around him. Risking his own life, he guided civilians to safety, helping them escape the line of fire,” Khandu wrote on social media.
Corporal Hailyang was on a personal trip to Pahalgam with his wife at the time of the attack and was among the 26 people killed. His wife survived the tragic incident. Expressing his deepest sympathies, Khandu met with the bereaved family in Tajang, Ziro, conveying his condolences and assuring them of the state’s steadfast support. “The loss is beyond measure. The people of Arunachal Pradesh stand in solidarity with the family during this time of profound sorrow,” he stated.
Highlighting Hailyang’s inspirational life journey, the Chief Minister spoke of his educational background, from his early schooling in Ziro and Haryana’s Vanvasi Kalyan Ashram, to graduating from Don Bosco College in Itanagar, and his dedicated service in the Indian Air Force since 2017. “His life was a shining testament to the strength, discipline, and patriotism of our youth,” Khandu added.
In a gesture of appreciation and support, the Chief Minister announced that the state would provide a government job to a member of Hailyang’s family and financial assistance of ₹50 lakh. Additionally, a permanent memorial will be erected in his native village to honor his sacrifice and bravery.
Earlier, Corporal Hailyang’s remains were received with honor in Guwahati by Assam Minister Jayanta Malla Baruah, senior state officials, and representatives of the Indian Air Force before being transported to his home in Tajang, Lower Subansiri district. The village witnessed an outpouring of grief and respect as thousands gathered to pay their final respects. Accompanying Chief Minister Khandu were Minister Gabriel D Wangsu, MLA Nakap Nalo, Lok Sabha MP Tapir Gao, state BJP president Kaling Moyong, and several top officials.
Hailyang will be laid to rest with full military honors in his native village, leaving a legacy of bravery and dedication that will continue to inspire many. The state of Arunachal Pradesh stands united in mourning his loss, while recognizing the extraordinary heroism he displayed in his final moments.
