Manipur Security Forces Arrest Two Insurgents, Seize Ammunition
In a joint operation carried out by the security forces and civil police, two insurgents from the proscribed People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak – Progressive (PREPAK-Pro) were arrested in Manipur on Monday. The arrests were made along with ammunition and a communication device at strategic locations in the state.
Saikhom Sandip Singha, 32, an active member of PREPAK-Pro from Assam’s Cachar district, was arrested from Bidya Nagar under Jiribam police station in Jiribam District of Manipur. In a follow-up action, another activist of the same outfit, Irengbam Robinson Singh, 25, from Ningthoukhong Kha Khunou Ward No. 4 under Bishnupur-PS, Bishnupur District, was also arrested from his residence.
The police seized a significant amount of ammunition, including 196 number of .303 mm empty cases, 82 7.62 mm SLR empty cases, 55 5.56 mm INSAS empty cases, 32 7.62 mm AK empty cases, and one mobile phone with a SIM Card. The arrests and seizure of weapons are seen as a significant blow to the insurgent group’s activities in the region.
The arrests were a result of the joint efforts of the security forces and civil police, demonstrating their commitment to combating terrorism and maintaining law and order in the state. The development is likely to send a strong message to other insurgent groups operating in the region, urging them to lay down their arms and join the peace process.
