Chief Minister Lalduhoma Announces Inclusive Move for Bru Community in Mizoram
In a bid to address the long-standing demands of the Bru community, Mizoram’s Chief Minister, Lalduhoma, has announced the establishment of a house-cum-hostel in Aizawl, with a financial provision already made for the project. The move is seen as a significant step towards ensuring inclusivity in the state’s development agenda and upholding the rights of Bru students. Speaking at the Boisu festival, a traditional New Year celebration of the Bru community, Lalduhoma emphasized the importance of unity and peaceful coexistence among Mizoram’s diverse ethnic groups.
The CM valued the strengths that come from the state’s diverse composition, stating that various communities have lived together in harmony and mutual respect for decades. He emphasized that every citizen in India has the right to freedom to preserve and celebrate their unique identity, customs, and way of life. “Whether from a large or small community, every individual must learn to coexist with others with dignity and mutual respect,” he stressed.
Lalduhoma’s words came amidst a call to condemn all forms of discrimination, religious intolerance, and coercion. The chief minister reiterated the importance of safeguarding the state’s foundation of peace and liberty, principles that must be protected at all costs. He also touched on the pressing issue of drug abuse in Mizoram, urging citizens to work together towards a drug-free state. To combat drug trafficking, Lalduhoma stressed the need to strengthen both legal and customary laws.
The announcement of the house-cum-hostel has been welcomed by the Bru community, with nearly 1,000 students currently studying and working in Aizawl expected to benefit from the facility. The Bru Student Association (BSA) organized the Boisu festival, which was attended by Lalduhoma and held at Tanhril on the outskirts of Aizawl. The event marked a significant moment in the state’s efforts to foster greater understanding and inclusivity among its citizens.
In his remarks, Lalduhoma highlighted the importance of preserving Mizoram’s strengths, saying, “This spirit of unity and understanding is the cornerstone of Mizoram’s identity as one of the most peaceful and progressive states in the country.” His words have been received positively by the community, with many expressing gratitude for the government’s efforts to address their concerns.
The move is seen as a significant step towards building a more inclusive and tolerant society in Mizoram, where various ethnic groups coexist peacefully. By addressing the needs of marginalized communities like the Brus, the government aims to create a more equitable society that values diversity and promotes social cohesion.
