Following the rapid circulation of the video, Maharashtra Police took prompt action, initiating an investigation into the incident. The authorities filed a First Information Report (FIR) based on Sections 302 and 352 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which respectively address intentionally wounding religious sentiments and provoking a breach of peace. The case was lodged at Haveli police station against four unidentified individuals involved in the incident, seeking to address the misuse of language and the potential for sparking local unrest.
Meanwhile, a separate issue concerning language use in Maharashtra has sparked a political response from Raj Thackeray, the president of the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS). Thackeray urged banks to implement the use of Marathi, along with English and Hindi, in their services, as outlined by RBI guidelines. He addressed this in a letter to the Indian Banks Association, delivered by MNS leaders, stating that non-compliance could lead to increased agitation from his party and potential law and order implications. “You give necessary instructions to the banks to use Marathi or else MNS will intensify its agitation and after that the law and order responsibility lies with the concerned banks,” he asserted.
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) had previously mandated the inclusion of regional languages in the services and signage of both public and private banks to ensure accessibility for all demographic groups.
