According to Sarkar’s complaint to Congress Legislature Party (CLP) Leader Debabrata Saikia, Zaman has been ignoring the recommendations of Block Congress Committees (BCCs) and issuing tickets to preferred individuals, rather than following the official candidate selection guidelines. The concerned MLA has highlighted a meeting on April 9, 2025, where Zaman allegedly overruled the BCC-recommended candidate list and distributed tickets to individuals who reportedly paid for them. A recent example cited in the complaint involves the nomination of Isha Hoque Ali, a former BJP worker, over Bazlur Rahman, who had unanimous support from the Congress ranks for the Raidak ZPC constituency.

Sarkar has also leveled personal accusations against Zaman, claiming he exhibits intoxicated behavior, verbal abuse of senior leaders, and surrounds himself with “hooligans”. The MLA has described Zaman’s leadership as a “parallel administration” within the district, which undermines party discipline and excludes other senior members from decision-making processes. He has urged the party’s top brass to take immediate disciplinary action, warning that failure to do so could damage the party’s standing in Dhubri, a traditionally strong Congress zone.
