As the sun rose over the Sarusajai Sports Complex in Guwahati, a vibrant celebration of youth, sportsmanship, and patriotism erupted to mark the beginning of Seemanta Kreeda Mahotsav 2025. The three-day event, organized by Seemanta Chetana Mancha Purvottar, aims to promote national integration and empower young athletes from India’s remote international border areas. The grand inauguration ceremony drew esteemed dignitaries, with Pabitra Margherita, Minister of State for External Affairs and Textiles, Government of India, serving as the Chief Guest.
The event’s significance lies in its bid to promote unity among border communities, often characterized by geographical isolation and socio-economic challenges. This year’s Mahotsav features 550 young athletes selected from over 6,000 participants across nine border districts of Assam, showcasing their competitive spirit and the unifying potential of sports. The event transcends mere athletic performance, symbolizing solidarity and aiming to uplift youth in sensitive frontier zones.
In his address, Pabitra Margherita underscored the importance of border communities in national development, highlighting the Government of India’s sanction of ₹6,839 crore for the upliftment of border regions under the Vibrant Villages Programme. He emphasized the duty of every citizen to protect and develop the nation’s borders, crediting grassroots organizations for mobilizing youth. The event’s tone emphasized not just sportsmanship but also the spirit of unity and resilience among border communities, resonating with slogans like “United by Spirit, Driven by Passion, Inspired by the Nation.”
Adding to the excitement, Olympic medalist and Padma Shri awardee Lovlina Borgohain made a special appearance. Hailing from rural Assam herself, Lovlina’s presence inspired participants, sharing her story of perseverance and urging young athletes to aim high. President of the organizing committee, Pradeep Kumar (IPS Retd.), expressed heartfelt gratitude to the participants, volunteers, and supporters, describing the Mahotsav as a celebration of the border youth’s role in nation-building and a tribute to their resilience and patriotism.
As the Seemanta Kreeda Mahotsav 2025 continues till April 11, it promises a dynamic showcase of sports competitions and cultural programs aimed at strengthening the sense of “One Nation, One People.” With its focus on empowering border youth and promoting national integration, the event is expected to inspire a new generation of leaders and athletes.
