Bhutanese Nationals Accused of Fake Certificates in Arunachal: Crisis of Identity Erupts
Arunachal Pradesh Scheduled Tribe Forum “Scourge of Fraud” in Government Jobs Allegations
The Arunachal Pradesh Scheduled Tribe Forum (APSTF) West Kameng district unit has sent a formal complaint to the President of India, accusing five individuals of possessing fake Scheduled Tribe (APST) certificates. The alleged scam involves individuals of Bhutanese origin who acquired APST status through forged documents and misinformation, securing government jobs in the state. Pasang Tsering, a resident of Tawang district, submitted the complaint, claiming that the individuals’ certificates were fraudulently obtained and used to secure government positions.
The accused individuals include Nima Zomba, a Lower Divisional Clerk at the Directorate of Information & Public Relations, Naharlagun; Nima Norbu Monpa, an Inspector with the Arunachal Pradesh Police, currently posted at the Police Training Centre in Banderdewa; Phurpa Lhamu, a Medical Attendant at the Community Health Centre, Dirang; and Dawa Sangey and Rinchin Khandu, both sons of Nima Norbu Monpa. The latter two are also accused of having fake certificates and government jobs.
According to the complaint, the family of Chosung, father of Nima Norbu Monpa and Phurpa Lhamu, migrated from Bhutan to Salari in West Kameng district between 1960 and 1980, eventually settling in Zimthung village under Dirang Sub-Division. The family allegedly fraudulently obtained APST certificates by concealing their immigrant background and fabricating residency claims. The APST Forum also questioned the role of the DC Office, Bomdila, for issuing these certificates without proper verification, potentially exposing the state to fraudulent claims.
The APST Forum has urged the authorities to revoke the allegedly fraudulent certificates and initiate proceedings to remove the individuals from their government posts, asserting that such benefits rightfully belong to genuine APST members. The matter now awaits official scrutiny and further action from the competent authorities.
