Guwahati Woman Survives Grisly Bus Attack, Protesters Demand Justice
A harrowing incident has left a young woman fighting for her life in a Guwahati hospital, while protests have erupted across the city demanding swift justice for the perpetrators. The incident, which took place on April 1, began when the 22-year-old victim visited the Badarpur Circle Officer’s office to obtain an income certificate. Later that evening, she boarded a public bus operated by ATSC to return home, only to find herself in a terrifying predicament.
As she boarded the nearly empty bus, she realized something was amiss, with only two other passengers on board. Sensing danger, she attempted to disembark, but the bus doors were locked, leaving her at the mercy of the perpetrators. According to eyewitnesses, the group allegedly attempted to sexually assault her, but she eventually lost consciousness. The passengers, including her family members, were forced to abandon her near Sargola in a case of brutal exploitation.
As news of the incident spread, members of the Hindu Raksha Dal took to the streets, blocking the AOC Point with a road blockade, demanding immediate action from the authorities. The group pressured the police to arrest the suspects within 24 hours, threatening intensified agitation if justice was delayed.
"We have detained around 10 people and the vehicle involved in the incident, and we will strive to identify and confirm the suspects soon," said Sribhumi SP Partha Pratim Das in a statement to GPlus. "We are doing our best to ensure the perpetrators are brought to justice as quickly as possible."
The case has sparked widespread outrage, with the victim’s family and members of the Hindu Raksha Dal rallying around her. The victim is currently receiving treatment at the hospital, and her condition is being closely monitored. As the investigation unfolds, authorities face mounting pressure to deliver swift justice, and the public remains on high alert, demanding an end to such senseless brutality.
In the meantime, residents of Guwahati continue to express their outrage and solidarity with the victim, calling for swift and severe punishment for the perpetrators.
