Urgent Heatwave Alert: Discover the 30 Scorching Mandals in Andhra Pradesh Today!
A heatwave warning has been issued for 30 mandals across Andhra Pradesh by the State Disaster Management Authority (APSDMA) as temperatures are anticipated to rise sharply. The advisory specifically highlights six mandals in the Srikakulam district, with five mandals each in Vizianagaram and Alluri Sitarama Raju districts also expected to experience severe heat conditions on April 2. “Several mandals across Andhra Pradesh will experience heatwave conditions on April 2, requiring caution in affected regions,” stated R. Kurmanadh, the managing director of APSDMA, according to a report by PTI. In a more optimistic update, Kurmanadh mentioned that Sri Sathya Sai and Chittoor districts might see scattered light rains accompanied by thunder and lightning on the same day.
On the temperature scale, notable highs were recorded in various parts of Andhra Pradesh on Tuesday. Ulindakonda in Kurnool and Nelivada in Vizianagaram recorded a maximum temperature of 39.8 degrees Celsius. Slightly lower readings were observed in Vempalle of YSR Kadapa district, marking 39.5 degrees Celsius, Rudravaram in Nandyal district at 39.2 degrees Celsius, and both Ravikamatham in Anakapalli district and Nagasamudram in Anantapur district, each registering 39 degrees Celsius. Such conditions underscore the pressing need for public awareness and readiness as the state braves the early onset of heatwave conditions.
The heat warnings extend beyond Andhra Pradesh, as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued advisories for heatwave conditions likely to affect parts of Saurashtra and Kutch on April 2, as well as areas in Rajasthan from April 5 to 7. High temperatures accompanied by humidity are also anticipated in Tripura until April 2, Assam over the next three days, and Gujarat for the next four days, contributing to widespread weather discomfort.
Adding another layer to the evolving weather scenario, the IMD has indicated the presence of a cyclonic circulation over Madhya Maharashtra. This weather feature, combined with moist air currents from the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal, is expected to bring light to moderate rain to various parts of Andhra Pradesh today. The IMD further warns of thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds anticipated for April 2, with similar conditions likely to persist over the ensuing three days.
Looking ahead, the monsoon season’s forecast provides a bit of a reprieve as IMD Director General Dr. Mrutyunjay Mohapatra conveyed that El Nino conditions are not expected during the upcoming monsoon. However, audiences should prepare for an unusually hot summer between April and June 2025, with above-average temperatures and an increased frequency of heatwave days anticipated across many Indian states. “We are not expecting El Nino conditions during the monsoon season. April-June to be hotter than usual, with more heatwave days likely in many states,” Dr. Mohapatra noted via PTI.
The importance of remaining vigilant and adopting precautionary measures in light of these heat forecasts cannot be overstated, urging residents and authorities to act proactively in safeguarding public health and wellbeing amid these challenging climate conditions.
