Amidst these discussions, Democrats in Congress have preemptively introduced resolutions to close potential loopholes concerning presidential term limits. Despite the constitutional complexities, Trump’s potential strategies remain a topic of speculation. When Welker proposed the scenario where Vice President JD Vance could seek the presidency in 2028 only to later transfer authority to Trump, he acknowledged it as one of several possibilities without elaborating further on other methods.
Later, speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One, Trump attempted to deflect questions regarding the prospect of a third term, indicating that while the notion was entertained by many, his current focus does not extend beyond his present duties. “I’m not looking at that,” he stated when asked if he intended to prolong his presidency beyond its current expiration in January 2029.
