Raising Voices for TB Awareness: Kohima Centre’s Painted Call to Action

As the world marks World TB Day, the District TB Centre in Kohima, in collaboration with Imchen’s Custom Art School, organized a painting competition to raise awareness about the deadly disease. The event, held on March 29, brought together art enthusiasts and TB warriors under a common theme – “Yes! We can end TB.”

The competition, designed to educate the masses about the importance of TB awareness, attracted a diverse range of participants. Moa Imchen, 3D Architectural Designer and proprietor of Imchen’s Custom Art School, kicked off the event by highlighting the role of art in combating TB. “Picking up a pencil and starting to create can be a daunting task, but with practice and dedication, anyone can develop their skills,” he said. Imchen also emphasized the school’s commitment to inclusivity, providing opportunities for children with special needs to hone their artistic talents.

Dr. Chibenthung Kithan, District TB Officer, Kohima, spoke about the gravity of TB as an infectious disease, citing India’s staggering case count as the world’s highest TB burden. “The need for awareness on TB has become all the more important to achieve India’s aim to eliminate TB,” he underscored. The painting competition, one of the many initiatives launched by the District TB Centre, aims to increase awareness and foster action among the masses.

The competition was divided into three categories – Primary, Junior, and Senior – and attracted a range of talented young artists. The winners in each category were awarded certificates and cash prizes, with the top three in each category receiving recognition for their artistic skills. The winners under the Primary Category were Thepfusolie (1st), Kuotuolie (2nd), and Nevaan (3rd); Junior Category winners were Moanoba (1st), Akumtemsu (2nd), and Neiketoulie (3rd); and Senior Category winners were Naomi Kintso (1st), Sukhiam (2nd), and Vilto Vincent Pucho (3rd).

In conclusion, the painting competition, aptly themed “Yes! We can end TB,” served as a powerful platform to raise awareness about TB and promote creative expression among art enthusiasts. The event’s success is a testament to the district’s commitment to addressing the global health challenge of TB, and it is hoped that similar initiatives will inspire similar actions across the country.
