India’s Skies Soar to New Heights: DRDO & Navy Unveil Cutting-Edge Short-Range Missile Defense System in Impressive Test Firing
Indian Defence Records Major Milestone with Successful Test of Indigenous VLSRSAM
The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and the Indian Navy have achieved a significant milestone with the successful flight test of the Vertically-Launched Short-Range Surface-to-Air Missile (VLSRSAM). The test was conducted from the Integrated Test Range (ITR) in Chandipur, off the coast of Odisha, and marks a major breakthrough in the country’s indigenous defence capabilities.
The VLSRSAM’s impressive performance demonstrated its ability to destroy high-speed aerial targets at very close range and low altitude, showcasing its agility, reliability, and pinpoint accuracy. The missile was launched from a land-based vertical launcher, successfully engaging the target with a high turn rate, validating its Near-Boundary-Low Altitude capability. The test involved all weapon system elements, including the missile, a Radio Frequency seeker, Multi-Function Radar, and Weapon Control System, which performed as expected.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh congratulated the DRDO, Indian Navy, and the industry on this achievement, terming the missile system a proof of India’s strong design and development capabilities in defence research and development. He expressed confidence that the system would be an excellent force multiplier for the Indian Navy, enhancing the country’s naval capabilities.
The successful test also underscores the competence of the DRDO’s design and development teams, as well as the Indian Navy’s capabilities in integrating the weapon system. The performance of the missile was validated by flight data captured by various Range Instruments developed by ITR Chandipur, providing a clear snapshot of the system’s effectiveness.
This achievement is a significant step forward in India’s pursuit of self-reliance in defence technology, showcasing the country’s ability to design and develop cutting-edge military systems. As the Indian Navy looks to bolster its defences, the VLSRSAM’s successful test serves as a reassuring milestone, demonstrating the country’s commitment to leveraging its indigenous strengths in defence research and development.
