Sikkim’s First-Ever Bungee Jumping Facility Launched in Gyalshing
In a significant milestone for Sikkim’s tourism sector, the state’s first-ever bungee jumping facility was officially inaugurated on Saturday at Singshore Bridge in Gyalshing. The 100-meter-high, 240-meter-long bridge, currently being developed into a glass-deck skywalk, is the highest bridge in Sikkim and the second-highest suspension bridge in Asia. The launch marks the beginning of a thrilling new adventure experience for tourists and locals alike.
The event was flagged off by Gyalshing MLA and advisor to the Tourism department, Sudesh Kumar Subba, who marked the commencement of the Sikkim Rural Tourism Meet 2025 under the Sikkim INSPIRES initiative. The launch witnessed three successful jumps, paving the way for an adrenaline-pumping experience that is expected to attract adventure enthusiasts from across the country and beyond, further enhancing rural and adventure tourism in the state.
Speaking at a press briefing, Subba emphasized that the launch of bungee jumping at Singshore Bridge aligns with the government’s vision of promoting adventure tourism and creating new opportunities for local employment. He assured that the facility meets world-class safety standards, with internationally certified equipment and trained professionals ensuring a secure and exhilarating experience for all participants. Subba also informed that, after a training period, local youth will take over the adventure operations, and the activity will be opened to all enthusiasts.
The event saw the presence of Gyalshing DC Tenzing Dorjee Denzongpa, Gyalshing ADC (Dev), Tourism joint director (Adventure) Kazi Sherpa, Dentam SDM, Dentam BDO, senior officials from the Tourism department, tourism stakeholders, and adventure sports experts. The launch of the bungee jumping facility is set to revolutionize Sikkim’s tourism industry, providing a unique and thrilling experience for visitors, while also offering a platform for local youth to develop new skills and contribute to the state’s economy.
