Transforming the Rails: Badarpur-Agartala Railway Track Goes Fully Electric
Agartala Gets Big Railway Boost as Union Minister Reveals Full Electrification of Badarpur-Agartala Route
Union Minister of Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw made a significant announcement about the railway connectivity between Delhi and Tripura, revealing that the entire Badarpur-Agartala route has been fully electrified. This major development is expected to have a significant impact on rail connectivity across the state. Vaishnaw shared this information in response to a query on connectivity between the national capital and Tripura.
The Minister highlighted that prior to 2016, Tripura gained broad gauge connectivity with the rest of India with the completion of the Lumding-Silchar-Badarpur-Agartala gauge conversion project. This has significantly enhanced rail connectivity across the state, improving the lives of its citizens. Currently, Agartala is directly linked to Delhi via two pairs of trains, with seven additional pairs of regular trains connecting the city to Guwahati. From Guwahati, passengers can access seven more train services to the Delhi region.
According to Vaishnaw, the electrification of the entire Guwahati-Badarpur-Agartala route is already underway. While the Badarpur-Agartala section is already electrified, work on the Guwahati-Badarpur stretch is making steady progress. Once completed, this project will enable the introduction of more trains and enhance passenger services to and from Tripura. The Minister emphasized the government’s commitment to strengthening railway infrastructure in the Northeast, focusing on better connectivity and improved travel experiences for Tripura and neighboring states.
The Minister reiterated that initiatives such as electrification, station redevelopment, and new train services are modernizing the railway network to ensure efficient, comfortable, and accessible travel. He believes these developments will not only ease passenger movement but also drive economic growth, trade, and tourism in the region. “With these initiatives, we are revolutionizing the railway network to ensure seamless travel for the people of Tripura and beyond,” Vaishnaw concluded.
