Mysterious Death of Ranchi Army Officer Sparks Worry and Investigation
The body of Lt Colonel Diwakar Kumar, a high-ranking Army officer, was discovered in the parking lot of the Khelgaon Housing Society in Ranchi, where he resided, on Tuesday morning. The shocking discovery has sent shockwaves through the community, with police and family members trying to piece together the circumstances surrounding his death.
According to preliminary investigations, the 42-year-old officer, who was a resident of Muzaffarpur district in Bihar, was last seen going for a walk on the building’s rooftop after dinner on Monday night. However, his body was found the next morning by residents of the housing society, who alerted his family. The news spread rapidly, drawing hundreds of onlookers to the scene.
Preliminary investigations suggest that Lt Colonel Kumar may have taken his own life, with family members pointing out that he had been undergoing treatment for depression and was taking medication. "We are investigating all aspects of the case to determine whether it was a suicide, an accident, or if there was any other involvement," said Gajesh Kumar, the Officer-in-Charge of the Khelgaon police station.
The investigation is also looking into the possibility that Lt Colonel Kumar’s death may be linked to an internal inquiry launched by the Army against him, which was sparked by a controversy during his study leave between 2022 and 2024, when he pursued a Master’s degree at the School of Journalism and Mass Communication, Ranchi University. Fellow students described him as a cheerful and friendly individual, but the exact nature of the controversy remains unclear.
